There’s nothing more important than good health. Most people associate a healthy lifestyle with strict diets and lots of exercise. While these factors are important, the small stuff matters too.
Sometimes the pace of life is so fast these days that we don’t make time for ourselves, or we adopt bad habits that make things easier. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and give up on maintaining our bodies altogether.
Eating right and exercising should be a part of everyone’s daily routine. But it can be hard to constantly motivate ourselves to live a healthy lifestyle.
The good news is that taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming. There are a few simple things you can do every day that will contribute to your overall well-being.
Incorporating all of them into your schedule is easy, and it won’t be long before you feel the effects. When you tackle the little things, the more time consuming elements aren’t so intimidating.
I feel a lot better now that I make it a point to do all of these on a regular basis – and they aren’t hard to maintain at all.
Drink water
Some experts claim you should drink eight glasses of water a day. It’s unknown how many people actually consume that much, but it doesn’t mean you can’t try. At the very least, try your best to drink a good amount of water every day. People who are properly hydrated have more energy. Conversely, when you don’t drink enough water you can feel slow and groggy for the entire day. Water makes your body function properly so don’t deprive yourself even if you don’t feel particularly thirsty.
Move
In a perfect world we would all have the motivation to exercise every day. But we don’t always have the time, or the desire, to get to the gym as often as we should. You don’t have to beat yourself up over not exercising, but there is no excuse for not moving. There are plenty of opportunities in a day to go for a walk, take the stairs, or play with your dog. Even waving your arms back and forth for a few minutes will burn some calories. Every little bit helps so differentiate yourself from a potato and use those arms and legs.
Floss and Brush
Keeping your mouth clean is essential to overall health, and the best way to do that is by making flossing a part of your daily routine. Most people brush their teeth but flossing is an entirely different matter. It is often seen as more of a hassle than a necessity. Don’t be fooled by commercials that claim all you need is a good mouthwash. Flossing gets rid of the plaque found in between the gums and nothing else can do it quite as effectively. Infections in the mouth can travel in your bloodstream to cause medical problems so make sure you don’t forget about flossing in your overall mouth cleaning efforts.
Wash your hands
Your parents told you to wash your hands as a kid and you should still listen to their advice. There are millions of germs living on all the things you come into contact with every day. Thankfully, they won’t hurt you most of the time. But on occasion one of those nasty germs transfers from your hands to your mouth and you end up getting sick. You don’t have to go overboard with washing, but scrubbing with simple soaps or beauty products a few times a day will help to keep the doctor away.
Get good sleep
See how easy these tips are? All you have to do is go to sleep, and stay asleep for around eight hours a night. Sleep allows your body to regenerate and prepares you for the following day. If you don’t get enough of it you can literally go insane. A lot of people don’t realize their lack of motivation or lousy moods can actually be attributed to a lack of sleep. Short cat naps throughout the day have also been shown to keep up energy levels and reduce stress.
Wash your face
Wash your face with a mild soap once in the morning and once at night. Keeping your face clean will help with acne breakouts and make you feel better overall. If you have oily skin that leds to acne, you don’t necessarily have to wash more. Washing too much can dry out skin which in turn leads to more acne. So be smart about it, and get a good soap with moisturizer. Avoid common bar soaps because they can leave a film on your face that prevents everything from getting crystal clean.
Not everyone can go for a jog every day. But it shouldn’t be too hard to keep up with all of these simple tips. Start with the small steps and you may soon find yourself better able to expand on your health regime. There seems to be a correlation between things like exercise and water consumption, and getting rid of acne, so it never hurts to incorporate any of these things into your daily schedule.
