Acne as an Adult

The last thing I expected when I entered adulthood was to develop a severe case of acne. I thought it was a time when all I had to worry about was paying off my mortgage and making sure that my kids got to school safely. But all of a sudden I was sporting pimples all over my face and I didn’t even know why. I had never suffered from acne when I was a teenager so it wasn’t anything that I did research on. I was thoroughly unaware of the causes of acne or how to treat it at all. But as soon as I started to notice all of the blemishes that we’re covering my face buy perspective on the situation changed entirely and I started looking for acne tips. Acne became my obsession because it was starting to interfere with my daily life.

I cannot fully describe what it is like to be an adult with acne but I can tell you it is embarrassing. People usually associate acne with teenagers so they are often shocked when they see an adult who has severe blemishes. Sometimes people would come out of the blue and asked me what was going on with my face. Other times they knew exactly what was happening but they would offer their own advice on the situation. I could tell when people were looking at me and I could also sense that people treated me differently because of my skin condition. I can’t blame them entirely because that is part of human nature but I could control how I chose to react to the situation.

Instead of suffering in silence I decided to do something about the problem and I needed to get help from a qualified professional. I made an appointment with a dermatologist and it was the best thing that I ever did. I was made aware of why my acne was happening in the first place and what I could do about it. I was somewhat surprised to discover how expensive it can be to treat acne but I was able to purchase all of the medications that I was prescribed in addition to Clean and Clear cleansers which worked wonders. For about a month I didn’t see much progress at all in terms of clear skin but I knew I had to stick with it in order to get clear skin. Eventually I was able to manage my condition and I still need to keep an eye on it to this day. It is rather inconvenient to be an adult who suffers from acne and have to worry about blackhead removal, but I am glad that I found help for my problem. If you are in the same boat I highly recommend seeking professional help from a dermatologist.

Adults are charged with many responsibilities and sometimes you don’t have the energy to take care of yourself fully. But when it comes to acne it requires your undivided attention and dedication to a particular treatment plan. If you half-heartedly approach acne prevention and treatment, then you can expect substandard results that might leave pimples on your face for quite some time. Any course of treatment requires that you pay attention to directions and try to follow them as closely as possible. It might be tempted to think you know what’s best for your skin, and it can be hard for adults to admit they need help. You might go for several weeks with a particular treatment and think that you can make your own adaptations for better results. But there comes a time where you have to put your faith any professional who knows what he’s talking about and trust that his treatment plan will show good results – while hiding the problem with acne concealers when you can. One of the problems adults face is that they are more opinionated and set in their ways so it can be hard to listen to someone else. But rest assured, the matter how much research you do about how to get rid of acne and blackheads, a dermatologist will always have more experience and knowledge about the subject.
